Archive, pin and color
Three ways to sort a growing list: put finished notes out of sight, keep the important ones at the top, or colour-code them.
Archiving
The archive is for notes you are done with but not ready to lose. It is its own screen, reached from the drawer.
- Select the note or notes you want to archive — from your list or from inside the editor.
- Tap the archive button, or choose Archive from the menu.
- Timeline confirms with an Undo in case you change your mind.
On the Archive screen the same button becomes Unarchive, which brings the notes back to your main list. Search and filters work here too, and tapping a tag chip on an archived note takes you to your list filtered by it.
Pinning
A pinned note floats to the top of your list under a Pinned heading; everything else sits below under Others. Pin the handful of notes you keep coming back to.
- Long-press a note and tap the pin in the selection bar, or open it and use the pin in the editor's top bar.
- Select several notes at once to pin or unpin them together.
Pin is not an app lock. Timeline has no passcode or biometric lock.
Coloring
Timeline has twelve note colors, each with a light and dark variant.
- Select the note or notes.
- Tap the color button, or choose Color from the menu.
- Pick a swatch from the Select Color sheet. Tap the swatch that is already active to clear the color.
The editor picks up the note's color, so writing in a colored note feels colored too.
Finding colored notes
Use the Color filter while searching — see Search and filters.
The Trash
Deleted notes go to the Trash, which you reach from the drawer.
- Tap a trashed note and Timeline offers to Restore it. It will not open for editing from there — restore it first.
- Select trashed notes and choose Delete Permanently to remove them for good.
- Empty Trash in the menu clears everything at once.
Auto Delete clears anything that has been in the Trash for over a month, and it is on by default. Turn it off in settings if you want longer.
