Export and share
Exporting a note
- Open the note.
- Choose Export from the menu.
- Pick a format and choose where to save it.
Five formats:
| Format | What you get |
|---|---|
| Export Markdown | A .md file. Images become links. |
| Export Zipped Markdown | A zip of the Markdown plus its attachments, with the links rewritten to point at the files inside. Marked with Linked Assets. |
| Export HTML | A single .html file you can open in any browser. |
| Export Zipped HTML | A zip of the HTML plus its attachments, links pointing inside. Marked with Linked Assets. |
| Export PDF | A .pdf. Timeline offers to open it when it is done. |
The zipped formats are the ones you want. A bare HTML or Markdown file loses its images and audio; the zipped version carries them with it.
Attachments can also be exported on their own, from the note or from the image viewer.
Sharing
Share in the editor's menu hands the note to another app — WhatsApp, email, a notes app — using whichever format that app handles best. The dialog also offers Share Markdown, Share HTML and Share PDF if you would rather choose.
To bring a note in from outside, share it into Timeline from any other app.
Sharing with another Timeline user
Premium members can share a note with someone by email address, straight from your account.
- Long-press a note to select it. The share option appears once exactly one note is selected.
- In the Share In App dialog, search for the person, then tick View or Edit for them. Edit implies view.
- Tap Update.
Shared notes show under Shared in the drawer. Open the drawer to see them; if someone has given you edit access you get the full editor, and otherwise you get a read-only preview.
Getting a note into Timeline
There is no "import a note file" option. To bring something in, share it into Timeline from another app, or use Copy As Note from the text selection menu — see Create, update and delete.
