Notebooks
A notebook is a category for your notes — Work, Recipes, Journal. Every note sits in one notebook or none at all.
Timeline used to call these categories. You may still meet the old word: the button that assigns a notebook reads Categorize, and its dialog is titled Categories.
Putting a note in a notebook
- Open the note and choose Categorize from the menu, or long-press the note on your list and choose it from there.
- Pick a notebook from the dialog. Tick None, or tap the notebook the note is already in, to take it out again.
Your list shows the notebook a note belongs to, and tapping it in the drawer filters your notes by it.
Creating a notebook
- Open the navigation drawer with the hamburger icon, top left.
- In the Notebooks section, tap Edit.
- Type a name into the Create Notebook... field at the top and tap the tick.
Type in that same field to search your notebooks as you go.
Renaming and deleting
- Tap a notebook's row to rename it in place, then tap the tick to save or the bin to delete it.
- Long-press to select several. The menu offers Select All and Delete.
Deleting a notebook does not delete the notes in it. They stay in your list without a notebook until you put them somewhere else.
Notebooks in the drawer
The drawer lists up to ten notebooks, each with a count of how many notes it holds. Tap one to filter your list by it. Beyond ten, manage them from the Edit screen rather than the drawer.
The Notebooks In Drawer setting turns that section off entirely — see Appearance and settings.
