Text, links and checklists

A note is a stack of blocks rather than one long wall of text. The + button in the editor's bottom bar adds a block; the button beside it formats the text you are in.

Adding a block

Seven kinds, in the order they appear:

  • Text— a paragraph.
  • Todo— a checklist.
  • Sketch— a drawing. See Drawing.
  • Image— a photo or a scanned document. See Images, audio and scanning.
  • Audio— a recording or an audio file.
  • Code— a code block. See Code and math.
  • Math— a LaTeX equation.

Formatting text

Select a word or a line and use the second button in the bottom bar. Four controls: Bold, Italic, Strikethrough and Link.

Links

  1. Select the text you want to turn into a link.
  2. Tap the link button in the text-format row.
  3. Fill in LInk Title and Link, then tap Create Link.

Timeline fetches a preview of the page and shows it in the note.

Checklists

Todo adds a checklist block. Each line has a checkbox and a drag handle — drag the handle to the right to indent an item one level, which nests it under the one above.

When you export, ticked and unticked items are written out properly as Markdown checkboxes.

Reordering

Drag the handle on the left of any block to move it. If that is fiddly on a small screen, Reorder in the editor's menu lists every block so you can drag them in one list.

Reading a note aloud

Read Aloud in the editor's menu reads the note back to you. Choose the Language and the Voice, edit the text if you want to hear only part of it, and tap Read Aloud.

Read Aloud and drawing are Premium features. Timeline will offer you a subscription when you use them.
