Creating a mind map
There are five ways to start a map. Pick whichever suits what you already have.
A blank map
- Tap the add button in the library, or the New mind map shortcut if you long-press the app icon on your home screen.
- Tap the central node and type. Everything you add hangs off it.
Quick Entry
Quick Entry turns a typed, indented list into a map. It is the fastest way to build a map on a phone.
- Open the Tools tab and choose Quick Entry.
- Type the first line. Press Enter for a new line at the same level, or use the indent buttons in the bottom bar to go deeper or come back out.
- Press Backspace on an empty line to remove it.
- Tap Submit. When it finishes you can tap View to open the map.
Paste an outline
Paste text you already have and 123Mind will work out the structure.
- Open the Tools tab and choose Paste Outline.
- Paste your text. Three formats are recognised:
- Markdown headings and bullets
- A numbered outline such as
1.and1.1. - An indented outline, using tabs, spaces or bullet characters
Tap Create when you are happy with it.
Templates
Open the Tools tab and choose Templates. Six starters are built in:
- Blank— just a central node
- Project Plan— goals, milestones, tasks and risks
- Meeting Notes— attendees, agenda, decisions and action items
- Weekly Plan— one branch per day
- SWOT— strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
- Study Notes— key concepts, questions and a summary
Tapping a template creates the map and opens it straight away, so you can edit it like any other.
Prompt AI
The Tools tab also has Prompt AI, where you describe a subject and the app asks a language model to draft the map for you.
This one needs a network service. If it does not produce a map, use Quick Entry or Paste Outline instead — they work entirely offline.
From another app
123Mind reads mind maps from other tools. See Import from other apps.
