Canvas, grid and view

The editor's Settings dialog has four tabs: General, Connection, Zoom and Grid. It is reached from the editor's overflow menu.

Two ways to arrange a map

123Mind can lay a map out two ways, and you switch between them from the editor's overflow menu:

  • Layout Mapper arranges branches automatically on both sides of the central node, and is the usual way to read a map.
  • Canvas Mapper gives every node a position you can control, which suits maps you have already arranged yourself.

Ctrl/Cmd + M toggles between them.

Zooming and panning

  • Pinch to zoom and drag with two fingers to pan. One finger pans too, unless you are drawing.
  • The − and + steppers sit in the bottom corner and change the scale in fixed steps. The magnifier button switches the canvas into a zoom-and-pan mode.
  • Fit to view in the overflow menu zooms out until the whole map fits on screen. Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + F does the same.
  • The Zoom tab of the settings dialog controls whether the on-screen zoom controls are shown at all.

Spacing

Three sliders under General change how tightly the map is packed. Each has a reset arrow beside it.

  • Main Axis— distance along the direction branches grow.
  • Cross Axis— distance between branches at the same depth.
  • Node Padding— space inside a node around its text.

Background and theme

  • Dark Theme under General> Interface switches between light and dark. Left alone, 123Mind follows your phone's system theme.
  • The colour swatch next to it sets the canvas background.

Grids

The Grid tab puts a grid behind your drawing. It has no effect on node layout.

  • Choose a type: None, Dot Grid, Graph Paper, Lined Paper, Isometric, Triangle, One Point, Two Point, Three Point or Transparent.
  • Spacing X and Spacing Y set the cell size; Line Weight sets how thick the lines are.
  • Snap to Grid keeps strokes aligned to it.
  • An orientation dropdown switches between Horizontal and Vertical line direction, and a colour picker sets the grid colour.

Finding a node in a big map

Choose Search from the editor's overflow menu. A bar appears at the top of the screen and the map stays fully usable while it is open.

  • It searches node text and notes, ignoring case.
  • The counter reads n of m, or No results.
  • The up and down arrows step through matches; the search key on a keyboard moves to the next one.
  • Each match is selected and scrolled into the centre of the view.

Present

Present in the overflow menu turns the map into slides.

  • It steps through every node that has text, in order from the centre outwards, showing the node's note underneath.
  • The counter reads 1 / n; use Previous and Next, or the arrow keys and space bar.
  • Esc or Exit goes back to the editor.

Saving

  • The editor saves when you choose Save And Exit, and also when you leave the app.
  • A draft is captured every 30 seconds while you work. If the app closes unexpectedly, that draft is restored and you will see Recovered unsaved changes.
  • Choosing Exit w/o saving throws the draft away.
