Subtasks and the tree editor

Adding a subtask

  1. Open a task and use the subtask block on the General tab, or the whole Subtasks tab.
  2. Tap Add a subtask and type into the new row.
  3. Tap the row to open that subtask in its own editor.

Subtasks can have subtasks of their own, so a task can become a tree as deep as you need.

Subtask settings

The cog icon on a subtask row opens its options:

  • Exclusive Child— allows only this one task to sit directly under the parent. Use it for something that can only be in one place at a time.
  • Delete Child— removes the subtask.

The tree editor

The tree editor is an outliner: one row per task, indented to show what sits under what. It is the fastest way to restructure a large list.

Reach it from a task's overflow menu with Open In Tree Editor, from a subtask row's menu, or from a project card on the Projects tab.

Editing

  • Tap a row to type. Press Enter to start a sibling row underneath.
  • Use the indent button to push a task under the one above it, and the de-indent button to lift it back out.
  • The bin button removes the selected task.

The buttons along the bottom

  • Indent— make the task a subtask of the one above.
  • De-indent— lift it back up a level.
  • Delete— remove the task.
  • Undo and Redo— step back and forth through your changes.

The menu at the top right

  • The save icon saves and returns.
  • Project— edit the project this tree belongs to.
  • Labels— edit the project's labels.
  • Exit without saving— leave and discard your changes.

Changes are not pushed until you save. Use the save icon in the top right before you leave.
