Layers

Every drawing is built out of layers. Open the panel from the editor's menu: Layers.

The panel

Each layer row shows a live thumbnail, its name, and how many items it holds. The buttons on it are:

  • Drag— reorder. The top of the list is drawn on top.
  • Thumbnail— tap to expand and collapse the layer's contents.
  • Eye— hide or show the layer.
  • Lock— marks the layer as locked.

+ Add Layer at the top of the panel creates an empty one, ready for you to draw into.

Layer options

The menu on a layer row offers:

  • Duplicate— an exact copy, placed just below.
  • Opacity— a slider with a percentage readout.
  • Blend Mode— how this layer mixes with what is underneath it.
  • Select All Items— grab everything on the layer at once.
  • Preview— a larger look at the layer on its own.
  • Delete— remove the layer and everything on it.

Blend modes

Ten modes, from the plain one to the photographic ones:

Normal, Multiply, Screen, Overlay, Darken, Lighten, Dodge, Burn, Difference, Exclusion.

Multiply darkens and Screen lightens — they are the two worth reaching for first.

Inside a layer

Expand a layer to see its individual items. Each one can be Selected, Duplicated, Renamed or Deleted.

Moving a whole layer

Tap a layer's thumbnail to select it. A box appears around it on the canvas:

  • Drag the handle in the middle to move the layer.
  • Drag the handle above the box to rotate it.

Done at the top of the panel puts it back down.

Layers do not need resizing. A whole layer can be moved and rotated, but not scaled — resize the image or text on it individually instead.
