Tools and brushes

The toolbar sits along the bottom of the editor. Drawing with one finger is the default; pinch with two to zoom and drag with two to pan.

The mode button

The leftmost button switches between these tools:

  • Draw— freehand. This is the default and has no menu entry, because you are always one tap away from it.
  • Select— pick items up and move them. See Selecting and transforming.
  • Paint Bucket— tap a stroke or shape to recolour it to the colour you currently have selected. It changes the item's colour rather than filling in the area around it.
  • Eyedropper— pick a colour off the canvas.
  • Rect Select— drag a box around what you want.
  • Lasso— draw a loop freehand around what you want.
  • Navigate— pan and zoom without drawing anything.

Brushes

Tap the brush icon to open the brush list, then tap a brush to change it. Six are available:

  • Round Brush— a freehand stroke with a Size slider.
  • Eraser Brush— with its own Size, plus Erase Shapes.
  • Rectangle Brush— drag out a rectangle, with Draw from center, Stroke Width and Radius for rounded corners.
  • Ellipse Brush— drag out an ellipse, with Draw Circle, Draw from center and Stroke Width.
  • Polygon Brush— drag out a polygon, with Draw from center, a Star switch, Sides from 3 to 12, and Stroke Width.
  • Line Brush— a zig-zag polyline, with Size.

Set Stroke Width all the way down to leave a shape filled rather than outlined. Brush size carries over when you switch brushes, so you rarely have to set it twice.

Round and Line: Merge Path Layers

Both have a Merge Path Layers switch, on by default. With it on, consecutive strokes of the same width and colour join the same path layer instead of each creating its own — which keeps the layer panel readable. Turn it off if you want every stroke kept separate.

Erase Shapes

The eraser always rubs out freehand strokes where they cross it. Shapes are removed whole, and only when Erase Shapes is on.

The eraser button

The eraser icon in the toolbar is a one-tap switch between the eraser and the round brush, so you can flick between cutting something away and drawing again without opening the brush list. Its size is the Size slider in the eraser's properties.

Adding things

The + button adds a Text or Image layer. See Text and images.

Mirroring

The mirror button draws a reflected copy of your stroke as you draw, which is the quickest way to get symmetry.

  • Tap once to switch mirroring on; tap again to open its options.
  • Axis picks Vertical or Horizontal.
  • Follow Zoom/Pan keeps the axis pinned to the canvas as you move around it.
  • Offset from Centre slides the axis away from the middle.
  • Toggle Mirror flips which side is mirrored.

Undo and redo

The two buttons in the top bar step back and forth. They cover strokes, erasing, recolouring, duplicating, mirroring and adding text or images.

Layer changes — opacity, blend mode, visibility, reordering, deleting — are not undoable. Check before you remove a layer.
